First try scorer and anytime try scorer, explained

Try-scorer markets are the most popular NRL player props, and the two versions behave very differently. Anytime try scorer pays if your player crosses at any point in the match. First try scorer needs them to score the opening try of the game, which is a far narrower outcome and priced accordingly — usually four to six times the anytime price for the same player.

The read that matters is role, not reputation. Edge runners and fullbacks take the overwhelming majority of tries in the NRL, so a winger at $2.50 anytime can be better value than a lock at $5.00. This page shows each eligible player's per-game strike rate, their tries against this specific opponent, and how many games they have played — all filtered to the confirmed 17, so a rested or scratched player never distorts the number.

For the timing side of try scoring analysis — how early the first try lands, and which sides concede first — see the try timing page. For the model's highest-conviction selections each round, see Premium Picks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between first try scorer and anytime try scorer?

Anytime try scorer pays if your player scores at any stage of the match. First try scorer requires them to score the very first try of the game, which is much harder and pays considerably more. Most bettors start with anytime because the strike rates are readable from form.

How do you work out a try scorer strike rate?

We divide a player's tries by their games played, using only games before the one being previewed. The page also shows tries against this week's specific opponent, because some players have genuinely lopsided records against particular defensive edges.

Do you filter out players who are not playing?

Yes. Every player shown is in the named 17 for that fixture. Rested, suspended and scratched players are removed, so the strike rates you see belong to players who can actually score.
