Best bets today — how this shortlist is built
This page pulls the highest-probability selections across both codes into one list: NRL favourites and try scorers, AFL system edges, and the round's standout timing angles.
A shortlist is only useful if you know what it is selecting on. Every entry here comes from a rule that has been backtested round by round, with its historical hit rate shown beside it — not a gut call dressed up as a model output.
Be sceptical of any best-bets list, including this one. High probability and good value are different things: a 90% shot at $1.05 is a poor bet, and a 40% shot at $4.00 is a good one. The prices matter as much as the percentages.
Frequently asked questions
What makes a bet a best bet here?
A selection from a rule with a measured historical hit rate, where the current price is short enough relative to that rate to be worth listing. We show the hit rate so you can judge it yourself.
How often does this update?
Each round, as team lists and closing odds firm up.
Is this betting advice?
No. It is informational analysis of how markets and models have performed. Gambling involves risk — 18+.

How often does backing the favourite actually win, and does it make money?
| Code | Strategy | Matches | Correct | Return on turnover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NRL | Back the favourite | 3,631 | 66.2% | -3.8% |
| NRL | Back the home side | 3,631 | 56.7% | -1.9% |
| NRL | Back the underdog | 3,631 | 33.4% | -4.5% |
| AFL | Back the favourite | 3,571 | 69.7% | -4.7% |
| AFL | Back the home side | 3,571 | 56.7% | -2.2% |
| AFL | Back the underdog | 3,571 | 29.4% | -9.8% |
These are the baselines, not tips, and the gap between the two columns is the whole point: backing the favourite picks the winner about two times in three and still loses money at flat stakes, because the price already accounts for it. The break-even strike rate at standard −110 pricing is 52.4%. Any strategy on this site is reported against these numbers rather than against a coin flip.
